Considering Questioning God?

Things happen in life beyond our control; good things, bad things-Anything is susceptible to embody the element of surprise in our life. The bad things are most difficult for us to understand. For those of us who have a faith or feel that we are a good person, these hard times not only shake us up in regards to the direct issue but it resonates deeper. We question its logic. Why would something like this happen to someone like us? Being a Christian, I use to hear that it was not "faithful" or good to question God. I've learned otherwise.

I remember when my cousin's son died suddenly at school. To make things worse, no one knew what happened and why his little heart mysteriously stopped working. I remember 'Cuz saying, through sobs, that he knew it was wrong to question God but he simply wonders why. Honestly, I don't remember what my exact response was but I know that I didn't agree with that doctrine. Am I saying it's alright to curse God out? No. Is it alright to act as if God is inferior to our intelligence? I think that would be foolish. I do think that God welcomes any chance to talk to you. No, He's not making bad things happen just so that he can "talk to you". It's not His pleasure for bad things to happen to us. God wants to be a comforter to us. He wants to teach us things and show us life in ways we would never imagine. He wants to be a Father to us. He wants us to love Him and trust Him. With that said, I doubt He minds answering a few questions in your time of need.

As my cousin went on a journey to understand what just happened, by questioning God, he ended up becoming a Christian. Since then, he used his life to impact so many people around him-or at least that's what everyone kept saying at his funeral. Yes, my cousin passed away suddenly this year as well. At first we didn't know what happened. I was angry, not at God, just at the fact that bad things happen. It's easy to say, "God wanted him in heaven" and expect loved ones to just move on. It isn't that easy. It also unnecessary to attempt to shelter God from the hard questions, He's not a politician.

My purpose in this post is to encourage you to share all of your joys, concerns, doubts, fears, frustrations, triumphs and more with God. Test God, ask Him a question. And you don't have to sugar coat it, let Him understand what it is you're going through. Who better to give you a correct or sensible answer, if you wait around to hear it... Questioning God is not doubting Him. I see it as a form of trusting that He may have the answer, even if you can't see how He would have that answer. You don't ask for driving directions from someone you doubt is familiar with the area. You ask someone with the expectation that they know where to send you.

Sometimes God doesn't give us a "2+2=4" answer. Whatever answer you get [from God], rest assured that it will address your question, provide you with peace and give you the grace to make bigger and better things happen because you have divine knowledge from an omniscient God.
